The Kalistrate strip is interesting, but I guess it is an homage (from a fanzine?)
When was it published?

Thanks for the other informations: so the Journal de Toto publication preceedes the one on Le Cahiers d'Ulysse?

And thanks for the links: fascinating ones, are most of them french?
Radar was also the name of an italia character from the 1950s.

The story by Kalistrate was not in a fanzine, but it was a story published in the "petit format" Inter-planètes n° 4 of Editions Lutèce (3rd quarter of 1969).

The Editions Lutèce published a few comics between 1966 and 1974.

Le journal de Toto published the first french translation of Saturno contro la Terra in 1938-39.
See here : http://archeosf.blogspot.fr/2012/04/sco ... re-bd.html

The Cahiers d'Ulysse were published during the war.
During the war, US strips were impossible to bring from the USA.
So, the french editors published european strips instead, and for instance italian strips as Saturno or Virus.

Thanks much for the informations – great to know about "Le Journal de Toto" as I was going to purchase some numbers, so I’ll see if I can find the first episode of "Saturno".
:pouce:

Re: the Kalistrate story. That makes it very interesting. But is the content of the story a sort of homage, or a proper intent of "follow-up"? If so, it would be good to have it published in italian.

As you can see above, the drawing is not very good : nothing to see with Scolari !

I have some "hard time" to decipher the french post of mimi, but thanks much for the information. It is surely interesting that that author/collector was an admirer of "Saturno" up to the point of conceiving a following of the story.

:good:

Mimi uses slang :

- "puces" means the market of old things ;
- "pseudo" means pen name or aka (also known as)
- "foire à la paperasse" means the market of old books and old papers.

Alex Kalistrate was a very cute person. Mimi met him on each sunday at the old market.
He had drawn thousands of pages of strips published with several pen names in other countries, but was not paid for this.
He was poor, but never complained. He was happy if he had tobacco for his pipe.
Mimi went several times to his home in the Jarez Mounts. Alex asked Mimi to take his tools (?)
He had a big cupboard where he kept his original drawings.
He printed his best drawings to sell them at the market of old papers.

(Sorry for my bad english.)

It translates in english quite well, just some passages were unclear – thanks much to Nutello for the explanations.
We still do not know what he meant by "bring the tools": di you help him to draw?

@Nutello: Your english is perfectly clear, and without much flaws. I am not so skilled myself – it is great to "translate" other languages, though). :chapeau:

Mimi was a plumber, and Alex Kalistrate had often water leaks in his house...

Maybe it would be better to create a new post for Monsieur Kalistrate, and keep clear the post about Scolari and Saturno...
Sir Tovenaar, what do you think ?
