Garth Série britannique de Stephen Dowling en strip quotidien dans The Daily Mirror du 24 juillet 1943 au 22 mars 1997.
Elle est reprise par John Allard (1957-71) puis Frank Bellamy (1971-76) et Martin Asbury (1976-93). Jim Edgar a aussi écrit quelques scénarios ainsi que Peter O'Donnell.
En 2008, le personnage est revenu pour de nouvelles aventures sous licence du studio Hayena.
Elle a été publiée en France dans Capitaine Marvel (Sagédition/PEI) et dans divers petits formats d'Arédit comme Aventures Fiction (2e série), Étranges Aventures, La Maison du Mystère ainsi que dans Charlie mensuel et Rétrospective BD dans les années 70 ainsi que dans quelques albums à faible tirage chez "Pierre Charles" et "Focus" en 1979-80.

Thématique
Publiée en bandes quotidiennes dans le Daily Mirror à partir de 1943, Garth est une série d'aventures fantastiques et de science-fiction dont les auteurs ont su aborder un nombre impressionnant de thèmes classiques - mondes futurs, voyages spatiaux ou dans le temps, civilisations anciennes, magie noire, mythologie .
La longueur des récits, autour d'une centaine de pages dans les remontages en petits formats Arédit, permet au scénariste de faire entrer le lecteur dans l'intrigue, en prenant le temps, pour chaque scène, d'installer un contexte et un climat.
Les scénarios de Garth oblige le personnage à faire davantage appel à la réflexion et à la ruse qu'à la force pour se sortir de situations périlleuses. Cela pourrait même être une des marques de cette série durant la période scénarisée par O'Donnell, privilégier l'intelligence plutôt que l'action et les empoignades intempestives.
On peut souligner dans cette série une certaine fascination pour les mythes et légendes antiques, les lieux particuliers, les sociétés orientales, sagesses traditionnelles et secrets anciens, les quêtes et voyages lointains.
Les éditeurs d'Arédit annonçaient sur la couverture des fascicules de Comics Pocket dans un cartouche circulaire "Garth" ou "Une nouvelle aventure de Garth" ou même "Une extraordinaire aventure de Garth" (Étranges Aventures) ou rectangulaire, horizontal ou en diagonale, "Une aventure de Garth" (La Maison du Mystère).
C'est aussi l'un des rares personnages pour lequel une publicité explicite pour l'un de ses épisodes a été publiée dans d'autres titres de Comics Pocket (1), et c'est une des rares séries - la seule ? - pour laquelle figurent un tableau récapitulatif des récits précédents à la fin d'un épisode, et une annonce pour un épisode à venir (Aventures Fiction n° 8 p. 140).
