Gil Turner

Gilbert H. Turner dit Gil Turner (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 11 septembre 1913 - 19 mars 1967) Animateur, dessinateur de bande dessinée et producteur américain.
Il débute comme animateur à Detroit pour le studio Jam Handy qui produit des courts métrages publicitaires pour des compagnies comme Chevrolet (1936-38).
L'animation
En 1938, il s'établit en Californie et entre au studio de la Warner Bros où il anime Bugs Bunny et Porky Pig (1938-44).
Ensuite, il travaille avec Jack Bradbury pour Carry-Weston (films éducatifs pour le gouvernement) de 1944 à 1946.
Il est également animateur pour la MGM en 1948-53 (Tom and Jerry, Barney Bear), Walter Lantz en 1953-56 (Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, Maw and Paw) et UPA (Mister Magoo). Suivront Format Films, Hanna-Barbera et Eagle Films.
Les comic books et comic strips
Il dessine ses premières BD aux côtés de Jim Davis pour "Sangor Shop" en 1943-48 (Homer Hond, Bugsy Bear Family, Ringo, Happy) et produit de nombreuses bandes animalières pour les comic books "Coo", "Giggle" et "Ha-Ha".
Puis il réalise le comic strip Chico en 1948.
Il travaille pour la Western Publishing entre 1947 et 1957, notamment sur des personnages Disney comme Mickey Mouse, Bongo, Dumbo, Bucky Bug, Pluto, Les 3 petits cochons, Big Bad Wolf ou Lil' Wolf (dont il signe des scénarios), MGM comme Pancho Vanilla (qu'on peut lire dans Titi Poche), Jeannette et Doudou, Lourdaud et Houpette (Barney Bear) et Warner Bros comme Bugs Bunny et Cochonnet (dans Tom et Jerry chez Sagédition).
Il dessine le comic strip Holly Wood dans les années cinquante.
Il se retire à Phoenix (Arizona).
